Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney
The Royal Botanic Gardens established in 1816 is the earliest cultivated land on the Australian continent. It is Australia's oldest scientific institution and one of the world's leading botanic gardens.

A walk through this oasis of tranquillity in the heart of Sydney will relax and refresh you. The gardens are located across the water's edge from the Sydney Opera House, and fill an area of land between the harbor and the eastern part of the central business district. This large chunk of land contains a variety of trees providing shade, and an excellent place to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy city.

The gardens have more than one million specimens. A walkway stretches around gardens and the harbourfront showcasing a variety of statues and sculptures mixed with plants and animals. There are a varity of trees including some interesting fig and eucalyptus, as well as a wide variety of gardens including; tropical gardens, rose gardens, herb gardens, Oriental Gardens, and a few water gardens (ponds) including a lotus pond. Some of the animals include flying foxes, golden whistler, common koel and channel-billed cuckoos, owels, possums, frogs, lizards, snakes and spiders.

Special attractions include magnificent views of the Harbor, Harbor Bridge, Opera House and city skyline as well as Sydney Tropical Center comprising the Arc and Pyramid Glasshouses displaying plants of the worlds tropical zones.
