On
June 26th 2005 Opie, Ryan and I climbed up Grays and Torreys
Peak (two of Colorado's 14’ers). Grays peak is 14,270
feet, making it the 9th tallest mountain in Colorado and Torreys
is 14,267 feet and is the 11th tallest. We had made a total
of three weekend trips to the area before climbing the two
giants. On our first visit we climbed straight up McClellan
Mountain, and reached elevatios approximatly 12,100 feet.
We were far enough back and high enough to get good shots
of the mountains we had been preparing to climb. On our second
visit we got snowed out during a spring thunder storm, and
were not able to get go higher than approximatly 12,500 feet.
On our third visit we climbed both peaks and followed a very
narrow goat trail back to the main trail head, making about
a 8 mile loop hike. Fortunatly there was no sign of bad weather
the entire day.
